As part of my Stanford fellowship in Geriatric Psychiatry in 1994 to 1996, I was fortunate to have an extended rotation at the Stanford-Palo Alto CADC. This was a wonderful experience where I had the opportunity to work with the best teachers and observe their passion and dedication as they treated this difficult population. The training made me a confident clinician ready to work with dementia patients and their caregivers. It also initiated my enduring interest in special issues of Alzheimer's disease.
After my Stanford fellowship I had the opportunity to have a geriatric practice for 7 years, working in nursing homes, residential Alzheimer's units, as an in-patient geriatric psychiatrist in a community hospital and as a geriatric outpatient psychiatrist at Kaiser. In these settings, my professional interests in Alzheimer's disease continued to grow and in April 2003 I returned to the CADC at the Stanford / VA Palo Alto Health Care System as a part-time staff physician. I enjoy my patient care work here and the opportunity to provide specialized Alzheimer's disease training to fellows and other students. I also have a part-time private practice in the South Bay which includes an emphasis on ethnic minorities and difficult to manage AD patients.
